Marissa

My name is Marissa and I live in eastern Washington state.

I started taking ballet when I was five. I studied at two different studios growing up, both taught RAD. I took most of the exams through grade 8 and passed my Advanced 1 exam.

I was homschooled until high school, when I began attending a homeschooling cooperative through the public school district, were I went to classes two days a week and was homescooled the rest of the time. when I was sixteen I enrolled in a program in which I went to collage and earned both collage and high school credit simultaneously. last year I graduated high school with my Associated Arts transfer degree.

currently I’m teaching at a studio near the university I’m going to, I’m a pre-med student.

in the future I hope to go to medical school and become a pediatrician. I also plan to continue teaching ballet.

best wishes and happy dancing to everyone.

  3. Hi fellow dancers
Sharon, I would prefer to comunicate through the website. I will continue to moniter coments here and respond to them.
serena, aside from always going to class, do lots of rises and releves, using the back of a chair or counter top as a barre, unless you happen to have a barre. also, continue to work on all your technique.

    happy dancing, Marissa

  5. Those photos of you are beautiful, I love that tutu. I live in Brisbane, Australia, I’m 18 and awaiting an approval or rejection for a loan to get into college (which i’ve already been accepted in to). After christmas holidays I will be going into an advanced 1 class which i’m a little nervous about and getting more so each day, I did one class in advanced 1 last year and it was quite intimidating because everyone else knew what they were doing, if you have any tips that would be appreciated. Good luck with uni, my sister is doing something similar so I know how hard it is

  6. Hi Ashley
First of all, relax. your teacher wouldn’t be moving you up if your weren’t ready. you may not know exacly what you are doing at first, but after you become familiar with the work it will be easier. if you are worried about learning the work fast enough, you could ask your teacher if you can copy their book so you can work at memorizing the work at home.
    Good Luck, you’ll do fine.

  7. Marissa,

You’re story IS inspring and I am a 15 year old who is waivering between the path of Medicine and Dance. Do you have any advice on what to do?

  8. Lea, without knowing you and your talents and passions I can’t say what the right choice is for you. either way it will take a lot of hard work and dedication. the only absolute advice I have is that if you choose one and your whole heart is not in it, you will be miserable or won’t make it. and if you have not already done so talk to your advisor or a teacher at school and your ballet teacher. they will have some idea what it would take for each path and how you are doing on that path.
sorry I can’t be of much help.
