Dance Australia: Ballet Teachers’ Workshop results

The Ballet Teachers’ Workshops (BTW) has held annual scholarship awards since 1971 for all students aged between 6 years and over 16 years who are studying a recognised classical ballet syllabus. The BTW scholarships are judged by pre-eminent figures in the Australian dance scene. This year’s judges were Principal dancers with the Australian Ballet Company—Rachel Rawlins, Kevin Jackson and Leanne Stojmenov. Audition classes are held at the Victorian College of the Arts and are taught by professional teachers.

The finals of the annual Ballet Teachers Workshop Scholarship were held on Sunday, August 28 at Darebin Arts Centre in Melbourne. A total of $7,675 was awarded in prizes.

More than 450 students auditioned for the scholarships, from which 124 finalists were chosen. The students were required to perform a solo for the finals.

Competitors in the two major prizes, the Paul Hammond Foundation award and the Mabel Pryde Memorial Scholarship, were required to perform a solo from a major ballet. Each has a first prize of $1000.via Dance Australia: Ballet Teachers’ Workshop results.
