Hi Everyone,
Would it be worth adding a new category to balletinfo.com called “Ballet Schools”?
We could write up a post for each school and members could comment on what they think of each school as far as benefits, disadvantages, experiences etc.
I will need someone to help me put together this section.
If you are interested just add a comment to this post or write me an email at anita@balletinfo.com
Thanks
Anita

@ Anita: yes, I think it would be a great idea.
@ topic starter: can it be in Europe? I know the Royal school of Ballet in Antwerp (Belgium) has a very goor reputation at this side of the ocean.

Adding a category of good ballet schools at for both intermediate grades and high school levels, as well at the college levels would be a great idea. It is very hard to find good information on reliable schools.
Regarding our questioner’s search for a good ballet boarding school, doing a “Google Search” is your best bet for now, just be sure to vary the words in your search string. For example, try “Ballet Boarding Schools”, “Dance Schools for Intermediate Grades”, “Schools for Dance Arts”, “Performing Arts High Schools”, etc.. Also, consider going to a summer intensive at the school before committing yourself to a full year there. A suggestion also if you are in the U.S., we live in the state pf Virginia and have a highly respected school in Lynchburg, VA called the “Virginia School for the Arts = VSA”, which has both summer intensives and full school year boarding. Their web link address is http://www.vsaart.com/. One of the dancers at my daughter’s dance studio went there last summer and had rave reviews about it and so this summer my daughter, who is thirteen, and several other dancers from her studio are attending VSA’s summer intensive this coming summer. Our dancer who attended last summer liked it so much that she will be attending the school full time next year as a senior.
Good luck on your search.

Adding a listing of both intermediate and high school dance schools as well as college level dance schools would be very helpful. It is difficult to locate information on reliable schools.
Regarding the question of searching for a ballet boarding school, using the “Google” Search engine is probably your best best for now. Just be sure to vary your search string, for example, search “Ballet Boarding Schools”, High Schools for the Dance Arts”, Dance Arts Schools”, “Performing Arts Schools”, etc.
Once you find a school you’d like to go to, consider attending a summer intensive there first, before committing yourself to a full year. Ask the school for references from the parents of its current students and from past graduates so that you and your parents can get an honest appraisal of the school’s strengths and weaknesses. Also look in your area for any “Governor’s Schools” that specialize in the Arts Fields.
One suggestion for an excellent dance arts boarding school that you may wish to consider is the Virginia School of the Arts = VSA, in Lynchburg, VA. U.S.A.. It is nestled in the Shenandoah Valley in the lovely Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Their web site address is “http://www.vsaart.com/”. A dancer from my daughter’s studio who attended their summer intensive program last year had rave reviews about it and she is now planning to go there full time in her senior year. Meanwhile, my daughter who is thirteen, and several other dancers from her studio are attending the summer intensives there this summer for the same reasons.
Best of luck on your search.

Well,I don’t know of any websites that lists a bunch of schools, but I can reccomend some. School of American Ballet is pretty much one of the best school in America, but it is extremly hard to get into. They have winter and summer terms. People from the summer programs may get invited to the winter term also, and you are able to just audition for the winter term. Keep in mind, they accept 200 students a summer out of thousands that audition. There, you will go to Childrens professional school until you are out of (I think) high school. Then there is another school you can go to after that. By the way,if you didn’t already know,it is in New York and is the school of Ney York City Ballet.
Then there is a high school in Idywild California named Idywild that is a high school boarding school for performing arts. Here,it is different from SAB,because it is your actual school. It isn’t in association with any dance company. It also has other things like acting and music and things.
Good Luck and Best Wishes.
