Bare foot ballet

I havent been dancing that long but already I can dance bare foot on pointe. I must have relatively strong feet how ever in class I dont dance on pointe. Should I enquire about starting pointe or wait?

  1. You should never ever try to do pointe in bare feet! You should always check with your teacher before buying pointe shoes, but I’d say if you haven’t been dancing very long you’ll still need to work on your technique even though you have the strength. I was desperate to start pointe too, but I can promise you it’s worth waiting and making sure you’re absolutely ready for it.

  2. OMG not another one. Please don’t ruin your feet by dancing en pointe without the protection and support provided by specially made pointe shoes.

  3. the strength of your feet is not the only thing to consider when thinking about point. your leg and core strangth, technique, and your age must also be considered. your techer is the only one who can tell if you are ready for point.

  4. You should wait, alot of people think they are ready for pointe because they can stand en pointe without the shoes, but I’m sorry to tell you, alot of people can do this,my pre ballet do this all the time and I have to tell them that they cant do that until they get the “special shoes”. You might want to ask your teacher for some excersises to prepare and strengthen for pointe, and ask her when she thinks you may be ready. Good Luck!

  5. You should not even think about pointe untill a teacher tells you you are ready, if you go ahead and try to dance en pointe you will hurt yourself.

  6. How old are you, and how many times a week do you take class? I am kind of amazed that a lot of schools do not seem to have any guidelines they provide their students, such as, you cannot go on pointe until you are (for example) 12 years old, take class 3-4 times a week, and have been taking ballet for no less than 2 years a minimum of 2-3 times a week.

  7. Don’t ever attempt to go on point bare feet. This is extremley dangerous! You can hurt your self so badly as you need the correct support. Point isn’t just about your feet. You need to build up alot of strength in ur ankles aswell as your feet. Point isn’t as pretty as it looks, but if you really want to get on point as soon as possible the best exercise i would reccommend is doing: 30 rises on each foot slowly, then both feet together in parrallel and first position. Hope this helps darling! Goodluck with your dancing!

  8. When you are ready to be on pointe you have to always rember before you put on your pointe shoes to make sure your wearing toe pads and make sure thier put on properly becuase from experince being on pointe without toe pads can cause serous blistters and then the next time you dance on pointe it is really really going to hurt.

  9. Hi Zoe. I do own a School and do have very strict guidelines in place. In fact my students do not even venture near the word POINTE until they have seen a Physiotherapist who specialises in DANCE (1), are above the age of 12 (2), have been taking CLASSICAL BALLET CLASSES for a minimum of 4 years and have reached a particular level where there is a pointe requirement in the Assessment/Examination side. (and a certain amount of hours per week).
I would be very much interested in hearing if anyone else has any other things to add to my guidelines. I am here to learn too! :o )
