Discover the Secrets to Conquering Some of The Most Common Pitfalls You Face When Learning Ballet
Blisters when en pointeTwo weeks or so ago, I had an especially long pointe class in new shoes. The shoes worked great (Merlets- I love them) except that I got one really bad blister on my little toe. It was bad enough that I couldn't go on pointe for a week or so, because it popped while I was still wearing my shoes and a new one formed over it, all in that one class. Now, two and a half weeks later, it doesn't hurt at all anymore and I'm fine on pointe again...except that it's still this huge red bloody gory hole in my foot. Should I be worried? Like I said, it doesn't hurt at all, it just LOOKS gruesome. And by the way, I LOVE this site. It's perfect for asking anything that I don't want to take up class time asking, and all the replies are really helpful. My parents are getting me the complete Ballet Bible for my birthday next week, and I'm really excited :-) Thank you! - Audrey October 10, 2006 | In Questions | 7 Comments7 Comments »RSS feed for comments on this post. as long as your toe does heal in the next couple of weeks it should be fine. in the mean time, make sure you are protecting it from infection and irritation. you should also be wrapping that toe with either medical or athletic tape until it heals and to prevent future blisters.

my ballet teacher has really ugly looking feet when they’re not in ballet shoes or pointe shoes, because of all the calluses and grown over blisters. I think one time she said she had a similar situation to you, and she said she puts metholated spirits on it to help dry it up. I don’t know if this would help in your situation though. I suspect it would hurt like billy – oh! to do that too.

To prevent blisters, tape your toes, especially in areas that are prone to rubbing with the shoe. Heels and pinky toes seem to be common areas. You can use first aid tape, athletic tape, and even hockey tape(it’s cheaper). If you happen to get a blister, a product called 2nd skin is very soothing for it. It is generally for burns. It comes in pieces that you can cut up and applie to your toes, but make sure you tape around it as there is no adhesive on it. You will find 2nd skin in the first aid section of the pharmacy.

Ouch, I know people will file down the dried skin of calluses, but you can’t really do that with blisters, so I guess you have to wait it out and go easy. Is draining the fluid from blisters okay to do? I’m not sure on that.

Hi there Audrey! Happy Birthday!
I don’t know what to say really but the previous posts are quite helpful. I’m hoping to get that, too for my birthday next week.
Have a great day and a wonderful time dancing!

My big toe nails have startedto look awful and have split way down near the base of the nail. The cuticles seem fine, but I’m worried that the nail will break off, leaving the toe exposed. it feels a bit sore, too. I’ve only just started pointe work and wouldn’t want to stop now. Any ideas of what to do, anyone?

If it’s still there I would go see a doctor about it.
