Buying Tutus

Does anyone know where I can find a nice, good-quality tutu for a reasonable price?

I know Back Bay Dancewear has some, but all of theirs are a little strangely shaped, and none of them come attached to bodices. I’ve looked on eBay, but theirs are all either too expensive for anyone but a real company or they’re for little kids. Anyone know anything?

  2. Where are you? What state/city? I can highly recommend Valentine’s tutus, but I’m biased.
    (No I don’t own the shop )
    They’re in Melbourne – http://www.valentinesbodywear.com.au
Otherwise, you could try to make one, but in my experience, putting the nets on is not easy!

  3. I have two tutus for sale, one is red, one is two tone lavender and pale blue, very pretty. The blue would fit an 8-10 year old, and the red would fit a 10 year old. They both have been made from Ros Turpening

  4. Yeah, I considered that because I do sew (I sewed my prom dress last year and I sewed my Halloween costume for this year- a Southern Belle dress complete with hoopskirt and parasol) but a tutu looks so hard! If I have any extra time I might try though…

  5. look out for an old McCalls pattern on eBay – either 7990 or 7991 depending on your size. It’s a pattern for a tutu that doesn’t use stretch fabric, so it’s good for pas de deux work too (ie it won’t slip in his hands when he’s trying to hold you up). I used it for my daughter’s tutu and it came out looking very pretty… (ask if you want to see photos!)

  6. If you are interested in ordering one online, you might just try searching for “tutus” using a search engine, such as google.

  7. I’m in Boulder, Colorado. We’re the skinniest city in the US (as in, the average person’s weight is the lowest in the nation) but only because it’s Hippie Central, USA, and full of marathon runners…there’s only one shop that sells dance clothes and it doubles as a yoga place.

  8. Discount Dance supply offers a beautiful white
    “classical” tutu…white un-adorned around $220.00 and adorned about $269.00
They print a Beautiful catalogue. I’m a “dancer Mom” and I have always ordered for my daugheters from this catalogue. Check out their on-line catalogue.
Let me know what you think

  9. It depends on what sort of a tutu you want, i searched tutus on google and some of them were rediculously priced (starting at $600 for a plain one and going up into the thousands). It also depends on what your price range is, Ros Terpening tutus has a variety stunning of tutus which has just about sucked me right in. Have you thought about buying a nice plain, cheap one and decorating it yourself?

  10. I’m having the same problem, i typed in tutus on google and it came up with droopey ones- which i’m fed up ov wearing because it doesn’t boost your confidence side stage in festival at all, make your own- but i don’t have enough time and my mum’s not that good at sewing, ones which have to come in from outrageous places and these completely georgeous ones but cost £650. My mum said she’d get me a really nice professional one to go with my new classical solo; which is completely lovely; but she said that however lovely it was and however much she wanted to see me in it, £650 was way too much.
I did look on discount dance supplie and i saw there really nice tutu but ma mumz decoratin skillz aren’t fantastic. I’m going to the move it expedition in london in march and mum said that she’s gonna wait until then to see what they have there but i really don’t think they’re gonna have anything there but she wont take no for an answer.
I really want a Russian tutu because the last classical solo i did was when i was 8 and now i’m 13; i never used to win and i thought it was because 1) I wasn’t the best dancer 2) i always wore droopey lame tutus with no pattern, proper bodice or hooped skirt whereas the rest were. I realised it was the latter when i saw one girl dance and she didn’t stretch her feet at all- and i knew i stretched mine more than her and i knew my whole dance was better than hers because random people kept coming upto me saying that i should’ve ov won over her but i only came second! Just because ov my costume!
I know i’m not being much help to you but i just wanted you to know that you’re nt alone and that i’m finding it really hard and i know people say its only a costume but it really can make or break a dance!

(sorry if you cant read this properly because ov my apreviationz, i tried not to!)
