Go to www.adta.org It is the American Dance Therapy Associations website. You will be able to get plenty of information there. A great book to read is "Dance and Other Expressive Art Therapies: When Words are not enough" Edited by: Fran Levy

Hi Jordan,

I'm sorry, but I don't think I agree.

Therapy isn't the same as making people feel good!
I do agree that dance is not the only thing you can use therapeutically, however, not every dance activity is or is intended to be therapeutic.

In therapy, you use certain techniques to reach certain goals, while trying to solve certain problems.
Feeling better about oneself can be one of these goals, but doesn't have to be, or not the only one anyway.

This reminds me of the discussions related to animal assisted therapy... It is not because you put a disabled or emotionally challenged person on a horse, that you are doing therapeutic riding...

But maybe dance therapy just isn't that well known at the moment and I just need to keep on looking.
Thanks for the input!

Not familiar with it especially. I'm not sure there would be anything exceptional about it. Athletic activity releases feel-good endorphins. Being fit makes you feel strong and capable. Being able to move and having others approve of it builds confidence. Fitness tends to reshape the figure to be more attractive, which also makes people happy.

Ballet does it, but so do a lot of other great activities. Depends on what people like most.

Google is a very broad search, I was hoping someone here might narrow the focus down a little for me.
