Going Pro

Hello,

I’m fifteen, and i re-started ballet about 8 months ago. I know you’ve never seen me dance, so that could make answering this a little tricky, but my teacher says that i catch on very quickly and am very talented.

Soon, i will be bumping up the amount of classes i take and when i get my driving license, i’m thinking of going 5-6 times a week.

Anyway, I would love to become a corps member of a small regional ballet company - i understand that to expect more than this ( such as being a principal in a major company) is unrealistic. But is this hope also unrealistic?

If not, could you give me some pointers on what i need to do to get there? should i take summer intensives every year? yadda yadda, what needs to happen? I guess, i’m asking what are they looking for resume` wise in a candidate?

Thank you!

  1. Ok well speaking as a ballet teacher i would say bumping your classes up is good, doing exam and teachnique classes as well private one on one lessons will help you greatly, also summer and winter schools as many as you can. Also be prepared to audition for any state, national or even internation ballet school as it will get you more expirence and if your as good as your teacher says then you never know one of them may see something in you and take you on. Hope that helps….chookas!

  2. As many classes as possible is a good idea and so is summer schools, have you thought about private lessons??? It sounds like you’re a good dancer and I’m sure you will get there in the end. Good Luck
