1. Most of them are good. Have your teacher tell you some she thinks would be good.
2. They really all do look after you pretty well, because if they didn’t and you got lost, they would be in a GREAT deal of trouble. I know SAB is very good about security and not letting you out of the building unless you have parents permission, and where your going has been approved by a teacher. Ballet Austin isn’t necasarily the “worst school ever” about this. I don’t know why you think this.
3.Ballet Atlanta is a very good school. I can’t tell if it’s right for you just by knowing its your first year doing SIs and your 12. But it is a very good program.
4.I already pretty much answered that in 3. They’re program is quite good and they do look after you.
5.In auditions, you should see if you understand most of the stuff they tell you, because schools are different, like I did better in the Boston Ballet SI program audition than in the ABT one because my teacher went to Boston Ballet and she has taught us what she knows,so it was easier because I was trained in the method they use for teaching. Ask your teacher where she thinks her training would be close to.
Congrats on getting accepted to Atlanta. No matter what you choose to do,I’m sure you’ll have a great time. SIs are really fun. Good luck!

Sometimes going to a summer intensive with fewer students, rather than multitudes, is a good thing as you get more specific instruction. Look for schools that have had success with their students, i.e., have they sent students to well-known competitions and had good results (finalists or medalists)? Have they had students get placed in companies, or schools attached to companies? Going to a summer intensive that is already attached to a company (ABT, SAB, and the like) sometimes loses you in the crowds of people who attend. It depends what you want.

Dear Nancy,
Look into the Virginia School of the Arts = VSA in Lynchburg, VA. Their web address is http://www.vsaart.com/. They have a great program. Dancers from our studio have gone there and have had rave reviews including from the parents. They will look after you, provide excellent meals, etc. and they have lots of evening activities that you can join, too, so you don’t just languish with nothing to do after classes are over for the day. In fact, my daughter and several of her classmates are attending intensives there this summer. VSA has auditions all over, or you can send in a video. Best of luck.
