How can I improve my turnout?

The other girls in my class can turnout much further than me. Is there something I can do to help my turnout?

  1. Do Rond de jambe’s. Lots and lots!

  2. Hi,

Maybe you can also try the footstrecth (see what it is there : http://www.dansephoto.com/photo-de-danseuse-justaucorps-jupette-et-footstretch,82,0.html)

  3. you need to get a theraband (sold either at your school or at sports shops) and do turnout exercises with the band’s resistance…be careful of overdoing turnout exercises though…the muscles in charge are small and sensitive.

  4. To improve your turn out try lying on your stomach, take your legs out to the side making a ‘V’, bend your knees and place the soles of your feet together and push your feet downwards toward the floor. While in this position keep your hips on the floor.

Also just standing in a turned out position during the course of the day will help improve your turn out. I used the stand in first or fifth position in the canteen line at school.

Remember that your turn out come predominantly from your hips not your knees.

    Happy Dancing!

  5. Everyone has different levels of turnout. be careful not to hurt yourself when trying to “increase” your degree of turnout. Use your hips, NOT your knees to turn out your feet.
    Remember:
    Knees over toes! that helps.

  7. Cross you legs .. (Just like you would in primary school) and lean forwand . . . If this doesn’t hurt then make sure your foot is way over your knee .. This is a really good strech for turn out!!

  8. Have you tried asking your teacher? all of these stretches are great but your teacher may have more stretches that you can do at home, when i want to stretch a particular area i always go and see my teacher and she always has a stretch
