I can’t make it all the way down to the floor when doing the splits.

I'm the only one in my class who can't go all the way down to the floor. Is there something wrong with me or can I do something to fix it?

  2. i couldnt do the splits for a long time but just keep doing them everyday, also you can try stretching alot before hand like lungs and things also my dance teacher has us do a really cool stretch for splits. lay on the floor with your butt against a wall and your legs up on the wall. turn your feet out like in first and then let your legs go to the sides along the wall as if doing the splits strides style. see if that helps it helped me alot!

  4. i have only learnt to do the splits, it was because i practised every day! dont go down into the splits first, it doesnt help. just but one leg behind you and bounce for 8 counts and then stretch up and go down slowly, it really helps!

  6. I had been able to do the splits for most of my life untile I took a four year break from dance
    (big mistake)
what I found that realy helps is to sit on the floor in as far a split as you can handle (there should be a far amount of tension) and do your home work. If you have to put your feet against the wall to keep tension

  7. whatever you do…don’t overexert. Some people have shorter muscles, but with care, increased flexibility will come, however much that may be

  8. Doing the splits is quite a strenuous exercise for your ham strings. Make sure that your muscles are warm before you begin to stretch them. To do this go for a quick walk or slow jog around the room/ studio a few times. This will get the blood flowing and decrease the risk of injury.

Once your muscles are warm stetch your hamstrings, hip flexors and quadriceps. Once these muscles are stretched and warm try easing into the splits. Hold it as far as you can for about 10 -15 seconds. Do this two to three times on each side. Do not bounce while in a stretch. This can cause injuries. Remember your muscles are like elastic bands.

If you do this every day you will see results & it won’t take long before you are sitting comfortably in the splits.

    Happy Dancing!

  9. First off, DON’T TRY TO DO THE SPLITS WITHOUT WARMING UP!!!!!!!!!! You could really hurt yourself.
That said, this is how i got into my splits:
I did some stretches before ( after my warmup - i usually attempted splits at the end of my stretching session). The butterfly and straddle were helpful.
Hold your split position for about 30 seconds to begin with and each time increasing slightly.
Do this is the morning and evening and you should see some improvement.

  11. If you have access to a gym that does stretching classes, it would be a good idea to go, as for warming up, a lot of hip-hop and contemporary classes devote some time to doing warms ups first. Even aerobics dvd’s and videos have warm ups so if you have some at home then take a look.

  12. Try having your back leg staight and the other leg bent. sit there for a while and then bend over as far as you can to make a good strech. day after day your front leg will get stairter and then you will the able to do the spilts. this will take some time my be like a one to two months at the least.
