If you do want a book, and not only video, consider "Ballet for Dummies" by Speck and Cisneros.
It's very fun to read and exlpains steps very clear, staring from scratch.

You can certainly get videos (if you are learning from scratch then videos are better than books because it is very difficult to translate descriptions of steps and movements from the page into three dimensions without knowing anything or have someone to show you). Peggy Willis Aarnio has a series of DVD's showing classes from the very beginning levels with a prima ballerina from the Kirov demonstrating (the other people demonstrating in the video are not so great, but you can ignore them) all the steps exactly as they are meant to be done.

But there is no substitute for a real teacher and classes. Do whatever you can to find a school you can go to. And please do not attempt pointe by yourself, with or without ouch pouches. Good luck!

where are you? is there a larger town nearby where there is a studio? will you be going to collage next year where there is a studio nearby or even classes you could take at school? if you can find a teacher that would be best. if there is no way you can take lessons you can try to teach yourself the basics using books and videos, but do not try to do pointe without the guidance of a teacher because if you are not ready or if you teach yourself something wrong you can do some serious damage to your body.
