Lydia you are not "too fat" I started ballet at 14, and weighed 150. I changed studios after a year and am now en pointe, and have also lost about 40 pounds of fat(but built sooo much muscle!). You'll find that dance is AMAZING exersize but also very enjoyable=)

Just so long as you eat healthily and excercise regularly there shouldn't be a problem. It is better to tell by what you can see rather than what you weigh, if you appear to be of healthy weight, then you probably are

My friend is a gymnast and has much more muscle than me. She is is about 9 in. shorter than me and is the same weight as me. It just matters about what the percentage of your weights is. Remember muscle weighsmore than fat so if you weigh a lot then it is highly possible it is just muscle weight. Also bone weight plays a part too.

Where does Monica get this information from? It sounds like she's recommending all dancers to binge and purge (or at least take up smoking) to keep the weight off! The recommended weight for a person's height is recommended for a reason!!!!

Where does Monica get this information from? It sounds like she's recommending all dancers to binge and purge (or at least take up smoking) to keep the weight off! The recommended weight for a person's height is recommended for a reason!!!!

Lydia you are not "too fat" I started ballet at 14, and weighed 150. I changed studios after a year and am now en pointe, and have also lost about 40 pounds of fat(but built sooo much muscle!). You'll find that dance is AMAZING exersize but also very enjoyable=)

Different people have different weights depending on there body shape. Girls with more muscle will weigh more than girls that have not developed much muscle strength.

It is too difficult to pin point a perfect weight as it all depends on things like muscle, fluids, height etc.
