Leaning on little toes en pointe

I have been dancing en pointe for a little over a year. I just got my second pair of shoes and im starting to break them in. My first pair were broken in wrong--I had been leaning on my little toes instead of my second big toe like my dance teacher says. I wanted to know if anyone had any tips on how to break them in right and stay off of my little toes!? thanks!! November 3, 2006 | In Questions | 4 Comments

  2. First of all you shouldn’t be leaning on your toes to begin with. You are supposed to pull up thru your center and that takes the weight off your toes. YOu break your shoes in by walking around on demi pointe and do alot of rises going thru the demi pointe, roll ups to pointe and down. How were you told to break in your pointe shoes??

  3. one reason for leaning on one’s little toe can be toe length. Is your big toe longer than the rest? if so the best way to fix your problem is to distribute the weight to your other toes without letting your foot lean. the best way to do this is with lose lamb’s wool. take the lamb’s wool and place it over your shorter toes before putting on your shoes. this may sound strang, but it really helps.

  4. Hi, from what your saying it sounds like you’re sickling, you need to try to wing your feet en pointe which is the opposite.
sit on a chair with your shoes off and your legs turned in, pointe your toes twist your ankles so your toes pointe in, but your knees are still facing up… this is sickled, now twist your ankles the other way so your feet stick outwards, this is winged, repeatedly sickle and wing your feet so you can feel how your feet shouldn’t be, and how they should be, you can do this using a theraband to strengthen the muscles.
    Then try en pointe.
