pilates vs. yoga

1.what exactly do pilates and yoga help fix? (turnout, flexibility, leg strength, etc?)
2.is pilates or yoga more helpful to improve ballet?
3. are they worth my time?

  1. Both are good. Yoga usually includes a meditation section at the end of the class, so if you enjoy that, you probably would prefer yoga. Pilates specifically addresses core muscles. Neither one is particularly designed to improve turnout, they work on all muscles of the body, whereas turnout requires certain muscles to be used more than others; but because pilates and yoga “even you out,” they can help reduce risk of overuse injury.

  2. I say “GO PLIETIES!!” Plieties will improve ur strengh, flex! The most important things in ballet. And as Zoe said, plieties loves the stomace muscles!!!!! My ballet teacher got me into it and it helped me alot!!! good luck!

  4. there is no right age to start pilates, younger students can’t always isolate individual muscles as easily as older students and have less strength. but if you can find a good teacher who offers classes for your age group, then taking pilates can be very beneficial. I have know students as young as 10 who enjoyed taking pilates.

  5. some classes have a combination of pilates and yoga their both really good yoga for relaxing and streching and lenghting your muscles and pilates help strenghthen
