  1. Do not give up. While dancing is certainly a difficult profession at the best of times, if this is something you really want to do, then you must do it. It is very easy for people to tell you that you can’t do something. People will try to do that all your life. If you can decide now not to listen to the nay-sayers, you will be that much further down the road to success. My comment to you I think was reasonable and fair, that ballet is going to be a bit of a rough go professionally if you are starting to learn it at this age. But if you have studied other forms of dance there is absolutely no reason at all you shouldn’t pursue a career in those forms, and there is absolutely no reason to stop studying ballet. I am kind of appalled at the very negatively, and I am afraid, rather un-thought-through, comments by other people.

Bottom line as far as I am concerned, you keep pursuing your dream. Please try following the advice I gave in my first comment about finding out about work visas, etc., and contact reputable schools/colleges/universities in America, if that is where you want to go, to see what further information they can give you, probably much more accurate than anything you find here or other chat sites.

  2. what area of dance are you wanting to go into? at your age it is doubtful you can still have a career in professional ballet, but you could still dance professionaly in jazz. the sad truth of the matter is professional ballet is very competative, and there are plenty of girls who start dancing between the ages of 3 and 5, and are dancing multiple days a week by the time they are 8 and going away every summer by the time they are 13. that said, I don’t know you. you could be a complete natural. I also don’t know what level you are dancing at right now and how intensively you have been training. I don’t think you should give up, but I do think you should understand fully what you would be getting yourself into. and if you haven’t already, consider a career in jazz, because it is not quite as competative and you do have more training in that area.
