Rolling in my feet

My teacher always say that I roll in my feet. She said that if I don’t correct it soon, then I won’t be able to progress to higher levels. Any tips for how I can correct it?

  1. Good Morning,

Usually, “rolling feet” appears when you – unconsciously – force your turnout. As muscles are not correctly extended, they tend to take a wrong position.

It can also appear if you are not well shoe fitted.

I mean, if you are en pointe, they may be too wide or have a too big platform. If you are not en pointe, they try to wear other type of ballet slippers.

There is a good training you can do.

Stand in 6th position, and press as much as you can your toes on the floor. Actually, you must press mainly on the big and the small toe, as they are those mainly used for balance. Once you have pressed them, unpress and bring them up. Your foot must not move a bit. If it does, try again and again until it does not.

You also can do “everyday” training by wearing flat street shoes (no sneakers of heeled shoes), and walk keeping in mind all your toes must feel the floor. This will be a bit annoying at the beginning (you’ll feel walking weirdly) but soon you’ll do it naturally and it’ll help a ot avoiding rolling your feet.

If that still does not work and your teacher keeps saying you rool feet, ask her to make you work relevés and pliés in 1st then 5th (or you can do it at home).

  2. your teacher seems cruel and mean and i think you shouldn’t go back to her if she is going to be negative and unsupportive…….confidence is the key

  3. her teacher might be just trying to make sure that she is dancing safely.
Since your teacher is worried about it, i would ask her what she thinks you should do to correct the rolling.
you could also research about it on the internet and see what other people reccomend for your problem.
I hope it all works out!
    Keep dancing…

  4. another exercise you can do is sit in a chair, with your feet in a nateral (only partially turned out) first position, keeping your toes flat on the floor pull your arches together as though your a macking a pile of sand. This will strengthen your arches and the mulcles that support them.
