Discover the Secrets to Conquering Some of The Most Common Pitfalls You Face When Learning Ballet
TendonsI have been noticing that after a ballet class my akilies tendons are really tight and as they cool down becomes painful as I walk! This has happned for a number of weeks now!! Have a hot bath does seem to do the trick but im just a bit worried that it seems to be getting worse and I dont want something awful to happen like one snapping as this happend to my old ballet teacher, she never danced the same again. So I was wondering if you have any advice and or any stretches you could do to walm them up before a class. Thanx alot 5 Comments »RSS feed for comments on this post. TrackBack URI Leave a comment |

It sounds like tendinitis. General treatment is ice, REST, protection (proper footwear ie good athletic shoes), and gentle stretching of the achilles tendon. It’s from overuse or misuse, and to be safe it would definitely not be a bad idea to see a doctor.

Yes, I agree, a visit to the doctor would be in order. If you have to stop for a while it is far better than having a snapped Achilles. Massage would be good to relax the muscles surrounding those tendons and release some of the strain on them.

here are some things that can cause tendinitis; if the drawstrings on your shoes are too tight and are “cutting into” your heel, ribbons that are tied too tightly, if you tie your ribbons at the back of the ankle instead of to the inside, and if you have elastics that touch your achilles, all of these things can cause rubbing and irritation. there are other things that could be causing your problam, but these are some things that are really easy to change. and be sure to rest until your tendons have had a chance to heal.

Have you ever heard of a slant board? If not, they are boards of wood that are right triangles. You put your whole foot onto the angle and lean forward. It is one of the best stretches for your achilles.
