The Nutcracker Suite is a shortened version of the complete Nutcracker Ballet, usually comprised of the divertissements in Act II, plus maybe some of the music from Act I.

I read somewhere (booklet with CD) a slightly diferent explanation.
The Nutcracker is supposed to be the ballet, the Nutcracker Suite is supposed to be the music without the ballet in the original performance.
(First performance was the Suite, without the ballet.)
But I don’t know if this is 100% correct.
Happy newyear to all of you!
