Discover the Secrets to Conquering Some of The Most Common Pitfalls You Face When Learning Ballet
Total beginner and can’t find classesHi! I'm actually sort of re-starting ballet from the very beginning(I learned the basic positions in third grade dance class, and had to re-learn the positions past first.) I'm 16 now, and want to get a winter job. With that money, I want to get some instructional videos on ballet, as I don't know of any classes close to my area, but my question is, will that be enough? And if not, then does anyone know of any affordable classes along Co-Op City or Boston Road?? Thanks! - Courtney October 19, 2006 | In Questions | 3 Comments3 Comments »RSS feed for comments on this post. TrackBack URI Leave a comment |

what city/state are you in? You could look at Ballet for Dummies or the Joffrey Ballet School’s Ballet Fit, two books I looked thru when I was going back as an adult to ballet classes for the first time since childhood. The other one is a bit harder to find, but look for Ballet for Beginners by Lawson. It’s a bit old fashioned, but then, so is ballet!

Hi there, videos will never be as good as a teacher, because you can’t see what your doing wrong, but a teacher could, and you could teach yourself things wrongly which could be difficult to correct if you manage to find a teacher.
Unfortunately as I’m English I don’t know of any ballet schools in your area, but I can help you before you find a class:
good luck in finding a school, I know how you feel, I’ve just moved to university and haven’t yet been able to find a new dance school either.

Instructional videos are absolutely not enough. You need a knowledgeable instructor who can correct you. You also learn from a class situation by watching others who are both more advanced and less advanced than you are. Go to a reputable school near you. It is worth it.
